Q&A: Does anyone know of a website that offers a Free sample business plan for a liquor store?
Question by Osohypnotiq: Does anyone know of a website that offers a Free sample business plan for a liquor store?
Basically I just need a sample business plan to help out with writing a business plan for a liquor store that my mom would like to open. The other business plans that the net has to offer are some what helpful but they cater to other businesses other than the one we are interested in. Most sites want to charge to download the business plan but I am afraid of gimmicks. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried to Google “liquor store business plans?” I have never seen a sample plan specifically for a liquor store. You may want to get a copy of “Business Plans for Dummies” from your local library. SCORE can probably help you write the plan. The working capital site has tips for writing the plan. Q&A: Do I need a business license for an online retail store?
Question by Carol Q: Do I need a business license for an online retail store?
I am in the process of setting up an online retail store in the state of California. Do I need a business license? I have a sellers permit and an ein. When completing supplier applications I am sometimes asked for a copy of my business license. Since it is not a physical store, I was wondering. They offer a lot of information for people starting businesses, but I guess they forget to be simple with their information. Thanks, I would appreciate a knowledgeable experienced person to answer please.
Thanks

I’m not the expert here but generally a business licence is required when there is an opportunity for a local, state, or federal agency to collect sales tax. So if you sell products from your website in the state you live in, you need a licence to they can collect sales tax from you. I assume the same would apply for local taxes. Check out the link in the source section.

Depends on where you live, and if your area has a diamond district, or a location known for having jewelry. Also depends on how much cash you have to play with.

When buying property for your shops keep in mid that renovation is far more cost effective than buying a new shiny shop. If you buy an old property for £250,000 and spend ~£2,000 on renovation, you could end up with a shop that looks exactly the same as if you bought a fully renovated shop for £300,000. Keep that in mind! As for managing the team: always keep in mind that people, no matter how loyal they seem, will try to steal off you. A series of CCTV cameras with a recorder is a must, especially over the till and looking at your products; you don`t want shop lifters. Don`t hold back on giving different members of staff different wages depending on how hard they have been working. Adding such a bonus can be a real motivator and will encourage everyone to work hard. Asd for brands of clothing, budget brands such as TU and Crosshatch are stylish, come cheap and sell well, but the only problem is that you too have to sell them relatively cheeply. If you are looking to sell clothes that are more expensive, the best things to aim at are branded clothing items. These are items of clothing that are made by an almost unknown company and then have a trademark such as the Nike tick or the Adidas symbol sewn on. These sell for a rediculously high price just because of the brand; e.g: wholesale shirt +Adidas symbol: 75p. Retail: £25. Profit= £24.25. People are prepared to pay these ludicrous prices just for the brand. As for retail secrets: make people think they are getting a good deal; one well known and practiced way is to brand some products as `sale` or `special price`, and charge customers the full intended price. If authorities get suspicious, tell them: `I am going to sell this t-shirt for £30, and now it`s on sale at £25`, when infact the off-sale £30 is a rip off and £25 is the regualr price. In your shop you can price things as you wish. It`s always important to stay on top of your accounts. Good luck with the business!

It is a good start. You should probably have a professional to review your books at least quarterly to ensure that everything is correct and identify any trends that are occurring in your business to assist with your profit and growth. Another thing to consider is your expertise is in retail. It may be a better use of your time to pay someone to do your books and you focus on what you do best. For example, if it took your 6 hours a month to do your books when a professional could do it in three hours, you would be loosing those six hours of purchasing, displays, or whatever you do to make your business profitable. And as I am sure you know, time is money!
